What are the pre-conditions for action?

Procrastination again!

It's a complicated subject and the most frequent concern I hear from people with ADHD.

The terrible part about procrastInation is the anguish it causes.

For example, someone complains, why can't I just clean my house/bedroom/car/office, why do I just keep putting it off, making it so much worse, almost unbearable? Why am I so lazy? Why can't I be better organized? I'm just motivated.

What has to happen for the clean bedroom? Is it really just a matter of picking a few things up off the floor?

For example:

There has to be a place to put it, you have to decide which things to throw away/put in the laundry. You have no place to put anything as you haven't cleaned your closet/dresser/whatever in years. You can't clean it out b/c you can't decide what to keep and what to toss, you'd like to just toss everything but hey, that necklace was a gift and even though that sweater is outdated, you love it, you've had it since high school. And if you put your sweaters away somewhere where you can't see them, you forget you have them. If you can't solve each one of these problems, how can you move forward, ie clean your bedroom? This is what I mean by "Pre condition for action"

These are some of the issues involved in procrastination. Each and every time. But we never name them, we just accuse ourselves of being messy and lazy.

We procrastinate because we think we can't meet the PRECONDITIONS FOR ACTION and these must be recognized and faced before any action can be undertaken. I think once you recognize that there is more at play, you may be able to go easier on the self criticism and maybe, begin to unpack what you need to do to do what you want or need to do.
